Updated 2020 Notes
May 24, 2024
Dear Wine Enthusiasts,
The 2020 Napa vintage initially faced considerable skepticism due to the severe wildfires that impacted the region. Concerns about smoke taint and reduced yields dominated the conversation. However, as time has passed, a more nuanced and positive perspective has emerged. Winemakers' dedication to meticulous vineyard management and selective harvesting has demonstrated the potential for producing exceptional wines, even in the face of adversity.
At Adversity Cellars, we are proud to showcase how resilience and expertise have shaped two outstanding wines from this challenging year: the 2020 Catastrophe and Harbison Cabernet Sauvignons. These wines exemplify how careful craftsmanship can overcome difficult conditions to produce something extraordinary.
The 2020 Catastrophe Cabernet Sauvignon is a bold blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with a hint of Cabernet Franc. It bursts with vibrant blueberries, cherries, chocolate, and mandarin orange flavors. This wine is a testament to the meticulous sorting and selection of unaffected grapes from our vineyards in south Napa and Oakville, capturing the essence of resilience and quality.
Similarly, the 2020 Harbison Cabernet Sauvignon from the Harbison Estate in Oakville highlights the purity and complexity of its unique terroir. The iron-rich volcanic soil imparts a distinctive minerality, enhancing rich layers of blackberry, raspberry, and tobacco. The vineyard’s micro-farming practices allow each grape to express its full potential, resulting in a wine that is sophisticated and deeply flavorful.
These wines reflect the remarkable story of the 2020 vintage and demonstrate how adversity can lead to excellence. We invite you to discover the exceptional quality and unique stories behind our 2020 Catastrophe and Harbison Cabernet Sauvignons.
